Over $125,550 in local scholarships have been awarded since 2008 paid out to 172 Pembroke Graduates to date.   Applications are now being accepted and are due April 31 of your senior year.  Go to the Students & Parents Tab to get started!   Our scholarships for review follow!

 

  • Each year the DFS Awards Committee goes through the process of selecting seniors who have applied for scholarships used to pay for expected higher education expenses. This year we have added THREE new trade school scholarships offerings. Awards are for any graduating seniors attending PHS, BOCES who reside in the Pembroke district. THIRTY-FIVE monetary awards are now given annually with over $193,150 in scholarship monies having been paid out to 204 Pembroke graduates to date.

     

    Descriptions of our available scholarship awards for 2024-25 are provided below for your inspection. Seniors with college, trade school and special life work aspirations should apply online by completing the student profile. Go to www.Corfu-Pembroke.dollarsforscholars.org and click on "Don't have an account yet". Click on "Choose this school", enter Pembroke, then NY and follow directions. This year the application window opens Oct. 31, 2024, and will close March 31, 2025. More information needed to navigate this site is available at the PHS counseling office.

     

    COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS 2024-2025

     

    ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP The Corfu-Pembroke Alumni Association provides TWO self-sustaining annual $1,000 scholarships to deserving graduates who display leadership, academic scholarship, outstanding personal character and a demonstrated need.

    ALYSON KRZANAK ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Alyson Diane Krzanak Scholarship was started to commemorate Alyson Diane Krzanak's life following a tragic automobile accident. The $500 scholarship is funded by the David and Renee Krzanak's family and friends.

    JEREMY R. GABBEY Sr. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This $1,000 award is presented to the single Pembroke graduate who exemplifies the loving characteristics of Jeremy Richard Gabbey Sr. who passed away from leukemia at an early age. Jeremy, known as "The Bear; loved people, worked hard, protected the weak, encouraged colleagues and respected everyone, young and old alike. He loved sports, especially football.  This scholarship is awarded by Guy & Elizabeth Gabbey to a student entering their first year of secondary education who displays leadership and the outstanding personal qualities that Jeremy exhibited.

    JOHN W. BUYERS ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP One, $4,000 gift is awarded over 4 years by County Line Stone Inc. in memory of its founder John Buyers, Sr. The award will be offered to a student who has shown ongoing commitment to the Pembroke community and its people. The student should plan to major in the applied sciences and remain vested in the Pembroke community.

    SOPHIE J. CHMIELEWSKI ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP The family of Sophie J. Chmielewski (a graduate of Corfu H. S.) has set up an endowment for awarding THREE scholarships of $1000 each to be given annually to individuals who display leadership, need, scholarship and a desire to succeed in higher education.

    CLASS OF 1965 ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP This award was started by 2 members of the PHS Class of 1965 and continues to be supported by the remaining classmates. Criteria for this award includes need, outstanding personal character and academic achievement or talent. It is a single $500 award offered annually.

    CORFU-PEMBROKE HALL OF FAME ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP One annual $1,000 award will go to a graduate who displays demonstrated leadership, academic merit, developed talent, hard work and financial need. It allows current members of the Hall of Fame to "Give Back to The Corfu-Pembroke Community" by supporting deserving graduates.

    KELSEY MILKS MEMORIAL ART ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP The Kelsey N. Milks Memorial Art Scholarship has been offered in loving memory of Kelsey N. Milks by Kelsey's parents, Gregory and Roxane Milks and friends. Currently, a $500 award is offered annually to individuals pursuing the arts.

    KNIGHT BROTHERS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF ERIC TIEDE This $3,000 award is offered over 2-years ($1,500/yr.). It is open to all applicants who demonstrate integrity, tenacity, success in academics and financial need. This annual scholarship is presented by Scott & Kevin Tiede in memory of their brother Eric. He was well-rounded; creative and enjoyed math, reading, outdoor hiking and was a history buff. Scholastically, he loved football and learning with interests ranging from math to woodworking and photography.

    MARK MIANO FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP This $500 dollar scholarship is presented by Mary & Alan Miano to a deserving senior who demonstrates dedication to academic excellence, community volunteering and commitment in extracurricular activities.

    MRUCZEK FAMILY MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP This $3,000 scholarship is given to a student planning to enter the medical or healthcare field. The student must have shown volunteering, dedication and academic success especially in the health field. This scholarship is funded by Arthur W Mruczek, Sr. MD and Donna Dean Mruczek.

    NICHOLS FAMILY ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF FRED NICHOLS This endowed scholarship offers one $500 award to a graduating senior who has strong academic skill, and has been involved in co-curricular activities during their high school career. Given by Roger, Mark & Steve Nichols family in honor their father Fred who spend many years in the Pembroke community encouraging students to value an education.

    KEVIN STEFFAN MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP The family of Kevin Steffan has recently established a $1,000 scholarship in his name and memory to be awarded to the Pembroke Central Schools. Kevin was a veteran teacher in the Corfu-Pembroke Central School District who passed away during the 2022-2023academic year. The Steffan family encourages seniors to apply for this scholarship award in celebration of his memory and his dedicated service to the children of the Corfu-Pembroke School District.

    VERNON J. RUPERT ENDOWED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPAnne and Vernon G. Rupert offer up to FIVE awards of up to $5,000 each annually in memory of their only son Vernon J. Rupert who passed away after graduating from Pembroke. Anne Rupert, a 38-year veteran of the Corfu-Pembroke School District loved children. Deeply touched by his passing she desired to help children like her son, who worked hard and strived for academic success. She dedicated these scholarships for students who worked hard but found success difficult to achieve. These scholarships are designed for applicants who fall into the lower 90% of any graduating class. These awards include secondary education programs for everything from certification programs, trade school instruction, 2-year degree programs and the traditional 4-year university education.

    CATHIE-WILD VFW POST 9000 ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP The VFW Endowment Scholarship offers $1,000 annually to an outstanding Pembroke graduate who plans to pursue higher education at a two/four-year institution. The awardee must have a nuclear family member who is or was recently involved in military service of the USA.

    DFS #1 DENNY'S DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS This scholarship awards consist of varying monetary amounts (normally $250). These scholarships may be awarded annually if funds are available at the pleasure of the DFS Board to Pembroke students for services rendered to our organization and to the Pembroke student community.

    WOOD FAMILY LEGAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is offered by Heather Wood in honor of Pembroke graduate Tyler Wood who greatly appreciated the education he received in the Pembroke School District during his years of attendance. One annual scholarship of $250 dollars will be based on meritorious achievement during community involvement. It will be awarded to a scholar pursuing a degree in the legal field.

     

    TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2024-2025

    Arnold Barnett Kids/Club for Life Scholarship  The Arnie's Kids/Club for Life Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of the life and the work of Arnold Barnett, Director of Special Education in the Pembroke Central Schools. "It's all about the kids." Arnie would say. This annual $1,000 award is presented by the Kids/Club to a graduating student in the Special Ed program who intends to attend a trade or vocational school to prepare for future employment. This scholarship encourages the aspirations and productive efforts of special students by rewarding their desire to excel in life and society.

    BUTTERCRUMBS ANNUAL RECOGNITION AWARD Mrs. Katleen Dethier awards $200 to a student who has a definite plan for their higher education, demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit, leadership ability and has financial need.

    CLASS OF 1972 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPThis annual award was created by the PHS Class of 1972 to recognize a scholar pursuing a 2-year degree or preparing for trade school study. It is based primarily on student need, but also recognizes student achievement and merit. This $100 award commemorates the 50-year high school reunion and celebration of the Class of 1972.

    CLASS OF 1977 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP (NEW) Presented by the PHS Class of 1977 this annual $500 award given to a Pembroke graduate who pursuing a trade school experience or a traditional college experience leading to a 2-year or a 4-year degree. This award is based upon both student need and merit.

    PEMBROKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (NEW) This scholarship is offered by the members of the Corfu-Pembroke Historical Society to a Pembroke graduate who desires a career in the trades. It is primarily based on financial need to a deserving student who demonstrates perseverance and participates in community service activities. This $250 award is offered annually by the society to an individual pursuing an associate degree in the trades.

    HARRY D. DIBBLE MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP Harry D. Dibble was an outstanding member of the Corfu-Pembroke Community for many years. This annual $1,000 award is based on need, outstanding personal character, demonstrated skill and work ethic. Mrs. Maura Dibble and family and friends presents this scholarship in Harry Dibble's memory to a student who will be attending a trade or vocational school and who has shown an ongoing commitment to the community of Pembroke and its people, and will remain vested in the Pembroke community.

    RICHARD & SHIRLEY KERN MEMORIAL TRADE SCHOOL ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP This $ 1,000 trade school scholarship is awarded annually in memory of long time Corfu residence Richard & Shirley Kern by the Kern family to an outstanding (BOCES/non BOCES) graduate of Pembroke high school. It celebrates and recognizes the pursuit of a career in the trades. It is available to any PHS graduate planning on attending a trade school or pursuing a 2-year associate degree in the trades.

    RUSS & MARY LOU OBERLANDER TRADE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (NEW) The Russ and Mary Lou Oberlander Trade School Scholarship is designed by Russ (PHS Class '64) to provide an annual $1,000 award to a deserving needy student who desires a career in the trades. It rewards an individual who desires and works diligently to excel. It recognizes student achievement and merit demonstrated by perseverance and determination.

    THE LAMB FAMILY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TRADE SCHOOL APPLICANTS The Lamb Family Scholarships provide 2 trade school awards annually for students entering the fields of agriculture and/or medicine. Each award is valued at $250 and may be used for a trade school certificate or 2-year degree program leading to an associate degree in the trades. Both BOCES and non BOCES students of PHS are eligible to apply for these awar
