Thank you for your interest in contributing financial assistance through the Corfu-Pembroke Dollars for Scholars (DFS) to students from the Corfu-Pembroke school district who have decided to further their education. To serve our scholars, the Corfu-Pembroke DFS Chapter offers two different types of scholarships.
- PASS-THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP
A PASS-THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP serves as an award that may be given once or annually when funds are provided annually by the donor for that purpose.
For example, a PASS-THROUGH SCHOLARSHIP would be appropriate for an individual who wishes to give a one-time gift of $500 to recognize the passing of a family member by creating an award in the name of the deceased to honor their memory. The donation would be made by October 1st of the year prior to the award year so that eligible scholars would have the opportunity to review and apply for the award. All scholarship offerings are posted in the November issue of the district newsletter "Dragon Tales".
- ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
An ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP is recommended for individuals or organizations who wish to create a self-sustaining award that would be made annually. This multi-year scholarship is designed for larger donations that may aid a single recipient or multiple recipients each year. Endowed funds are invested in accordance with our investment policy guidelines in order to sustain a multi-year award. It may be funded as a lump sum payment at the onset of the award or may be funded by a pre-arranged schedule of payments occurring on October 1st of each academic year. This endowed scholarship will be posted each year in the November issue of the district newsletter "Dragon Tales".
We are a registered 501 (C) (3) tax-exempt charitable organization under IRS Ruling 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi) with the ability to issue tax-deductible receipts to our donors. We are chartered by and affiliated with Scholarship America since June 9, 2008. One hundred percent of funds donated for college scholarships goes to the scholars. Funds for DFS operations and expenses are obtained separately from gifts provided by alumni, friends, community individuals and community organizations though our annual fundraisers.
